Many people start to think of ventilation when the weather is starting to get cooler but the best time to install ventilation is before you need it, Before your home starts to have problems with moisture and dampness. Conditioning your home for the colder months reduces the moisture in the home which in turn reduces the cost of heating during the cold months. In new homes it is quickest and most efficient to install your ventilation just before you install installation.
Removing 100% of condensation or moisture isn’t possible or healthy despite some manufacturers claims. A comfortable humidity level is generally between 40-60%. A good ventilation system will move the air in your home and reduce moisture and condensation build up.
Ventilation pushes the air into your home which in turn pushes out and many of the bad smells with it. Stale pet, teenage smells and food smells can’t linger in the home with good air movement.
Doors gets closed for a bunch of reasons, this can reduce natural airflow through the house resulting mould in closets and damp smelly areas. By ventilating the whole house you are able have certainty that dampness, pollens and other contamination are removed from the whole house not just one or two rooms.
New home or old home we all introduce moisture into our homes on a daily basis through showering, cooking etc. This moisture is stored in our bedding, flooring and furnishings which means that in some cases our new homes can be damper than older ones due to being well made and sealed up tightly. The saying is “build it tight -ventilate right” Tight houses are great for warmth by not for air flow. When there is little air movement nothing can get in or out. That nothing includes moisture along with all other pollutants and smells. So it is often more important in a new build to have ventilation than in an older more naturally ventilated home.
Under normal conditions the filter should work efficiently for more than 2 years. We recommend the filter(s) be changed every 18 months. We will notify you when this period is about to be up.
Either we can change the filter or if you are moderately handy and don’t mind getting up into your ceiling you can do it yourself. We supply the filter with detailed instruction. The latter would be a cheaper option for you.
Every house is different, some big some small, as we custom fit each system to the house, installation times can vary. Expect on average an installation to take 3 to 4 hours.
Landlords normally take great care in protecting their assets through insurances, inspections and good tenant selection, ventilation is equally important. A stale smelling house or one with mould build up in the bedrooms and bathrooms is harder to rent and will shorten the life of the building. You can’t control how and when tenants open doors and windows to air out your investment, but a constant flow ventilation system can do this for you.
Good tenants are actively looking for well ventilated housing and will pay more for a quality rental.
